This year, please join us for a panel of leaders in the reproductive rights and justice fields on the national and local levels.

Renee Bracey Sherman (she/her) has been hailed as the ‘Beyoncé of Abortion Storytelling.’ She’s a Chicago-born, midwest-raised activist, writer and reproductive justice activist committed to the visibility and representation of people who have abortions in media and pop culture. She is among the most vital voices in the elevating the conversation about abortion experiences, and using creative and innovative strategies to shift the conversation centering people of color and other marginalized identities. She’s popularized the phrase “everyone loves someone who had an abortion,” coined ‘abortionsplaining,’ and created the #AskAboutAbortion campaign which has led to presidential candidates being asked questions about their plans to increase abortion access. Renee is the founder and executive director of We Testify, an organization dedicated to the leadership and representation of people who have abortions, focusing on the intersection of race, class, and gender identity and centering those who’ve experienced financial and logistical barriers to abortion.

Dusti Gurule (she/her) is the Executive Director of the Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR) and the COLOR Action Fund. Together, these organizations work to empower the Latinx community to speak out and show up to shape the policies and systems that impact our daily lives. She has an extensive track record in collaborative leadership, strategic planning, public relations, organizational management, public engagement and coalition/partnership building. From September 2010 to January 2017, Dusti served as a political appointee under the Obama administration, representing the U.S. Secretary of Labor in a seven state region where she developed connections between community based stakeholders and federal, state and local entities.

As the founding Executive Director of the Latina Initiative in 2004, Dusti built the organization to a nationally recognized civic engagement and leadership entity, launching partnerships that resulted in programs like Colorado Latina/o Advocacy Day and Latinas Increasing Political Strength (LIPS).

Colorado Doula Project is a grassroots, nonprofit, volunteer-based collective of full-spectrum doulas and reproductive justice advocates. Colorado Doula Project works for reproductive justice for all individuals and families, regardless of sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, class, and background. Many of our clients travel from out of state to access Colorado’s third-trimester abortion clinic, one of the only safe, compassionate, and secure clinics of its kind in the United States. CDP is proud to offer free emotional, physical, logistical, and even financial support for anyone accessing reproductive services in Colorado, primarily abortions. In a society that continuously threatens people’s autonomy, we provide vital advocacy, compassionate education, and nonjudgmental support to protect the bodily sovereignty of all people.
